Idea: Creating an AI writer that rivals or surpasses human capabilities

Origin Story

After building an MVP of dev-kit.io, I tried to drive traffic to the site through content marketing. I created posts on reddit, medium, and other platforms, but the results were not as expected. I was able to garner some thousands of views on the posts, but the traffic to the site was not as expected and also not sustainable as many subreddits and platforms have strict rules around self-promotion. Running ads was not an option as the business model was not yet validated and I didn't want to spend money on something that was not yet proven to work.

With a background in writing technical articles on Medium that have amassed over half a million views, I've experienced first-hand the impact of engaging content. However, the challenge has always been to maintain the quality and quantity of content to drive traffic. This is where the idea for platen.ai was born—out of a need to create compelling blog content at scale.

The Idea

With recent advancements in GPT-4, I became interested in the idea of using AI to generate content at scale. The initial phase of content creation with ChatGPT revealed several challenges. The most notable were the limitations around real-time data, resulting in content that could sometimes feel outdated or disconnected from current trends. Additionally, there was a struggle against producing content that felt too generic, lacking the unique voice or specialized insight that human writers often bring to their work.

As many of us in the AI community have discovered, the more context you feed GPT, the better the results. ChatGPT's quality can be improved by retrieving relevant content and feeding it back into the model. This works sufficiently well, but is time consuming and requires a lot of manual work to perform research on the topic, identify key points and other common tasks in a writer's workflow.

After creating a few dozen articles, some of which ranked on the first page of Google, I realized that the AI was capable of producing high-quality content that was indistinguishable from human-written work.

I've incorporated feedback loops and fine-tuning processes that allow the AI to learn from its outputs and improve over time. By integrating real-time data, platen.ai enhances its ability to stay updated with recent information, making the content more relevant and timely. Moreover, leveraging my experience in creating widely-read articles, I've programmed the AI to understand the nuances of engaging and audience-specific content creation.
